Most people recognize the nationally prominent Ronald McDonald House as a welcoming center. Here, families with children undergoing treatment for chronic or life threatening illnesses are able to reside, as a family, during those treatments. These stays can last from a single night to several months.
However, the Ronald McDonald House only serves children up through age 21. Yet there are thousands of adult patients in the greater Boston area who also come to the region’s outstanding hospitals for treatment. Often, as was the case with Rosemarie Tocci and Cathy Langan, chemotherapy or radiation treatments leave these patients weak, tired and unable to travel.
